Andy Smith, MD*

Since March 2010, Dr. Andy Smith has been the Vice President / Chief Medical Officer at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, California.  In this capacity, Dr. Smith is responsible for the effectiveness of efforts to evaluate, monitor, and improve the quality of care provided by the Hospital and medical staff.  Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Smith was the Chief Medical Officer at a 243-bed regional tertiary care hospital in Northern Michigan for seven years, where he was the accountable physician executive for all Hospital clinical areas including medical staff development/physician recruiting, information technology, care management, performance improvement, and medical research.  While maintaining a clinical practice, Dr. Smith also championed comprehensive surgical redesign processes for the Hospital which led to the introduction of medical staff leadership for OR administration and the restructuring of operating room management and block scheduling.  Dr. Smith received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
